Crusaders of the Canvas

Welcome to Crusaders of the Canvas

A little history about Crusaders of the Canvas.
You may be thinking what's with the name? Well, we wanted to travel our beautiful country in many different ways, and yes we love canvas tents/swags so we have decided that will be where we start off.
My wife, 5 year old son and I sold everything to travel our beautiful country. But 2 weeks after we sold everything back in November 2016, I was diagnosed with Rectal Cancer. After receiving chemo and radiation in January/February and 1st surgery back in April and 2nd surgery in October we are back on the road living our dream.
It’s now been just over a year, and yes it’s been a tough year with surgeries, treatment and hospitals. However, we have completely loved the year we have had. It might have started rocky but after 22,628km’s we have travelled thru Qld, Nsw, Victoria and have even ventured out to the NT border just to say we have been there. 2018, we are looking at travelling the Northern Territory and also doing the 4 corners (Cameron’s Corner etc).

About us:

Scott is a Photographer / Videographer who is available to cater to anyone’s Photography needs Australia Wide.
Julie is an Aged Care Nurse.
Elijah has just turned 5 and has just completed his 1st year of Kindergarten through Distance Education with Kalgoorlie School of the Air. He starts Prep in 2018 the same way. Living on the road gives Elijah the chance to learn at his own pace through Distance Education.

Our Setup:

Petronas is our 1995 Nissan Pathfinder. She is all original inside and out and has never let us down. Since we use a tent over our heads at night, we don’t tow a caravan. However we do tow a Homemade Trailer that holds all of our travels needs.

Places we have enjoyed:

West Leichhardt Station (Mt Isa) – We originally booked into this 330,000 acre working Cattle Station for 2 nights. We loved the place and people so much that 8 weeks later we left.

Hillside Station (Cloncurry) – Sister station to West Leichhardt Station where we were asked to caretake. We are currently in Victoria but heading back to Cloncurry in early 2018.

Great Ocean Road – We have now visited these attractions on this road on two occasions now. For some reason it keeps drawing us back.

Macquarie Woods – This awesome free camp smack bang between Orange and Bathurst was the bomb. Plenty of room, quiet, drop loos cleaned every few days by council, kangaroos galore at night, beautiful environment to sit there and just watch the stars and let time fly by.

Boynedale, Qld – This place was one of our first places that we free camped at. We met quite a few other travellers that we continue to this very day still have contact with. We camped right on the river. We enjoyed some fishing, open fires and peace and quiet.

Julie Favourite Destination: Great Ocean Road, Victoria
Scott’s Favourite Destination: Lyon Street, Carlton
Elijah’s Favourite Destination: West Leichhardt Station (Mt Isa)

Feel free to come follow our travels and hopefully see you on the road sometime.
